About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled PostgreSQL DBA to support and enhance our database infrastructure, playing a key role in ensuring data availability, security, and performance across OVO’s platforms. This is an exciting opportunity for a PostgreSQL specialist to make an immediate impact, providing consultancy and support while helping to shape and expand our Postgres capabilities.

In this role, you will collaborate with software developers, SRE teams, and system administrators, contributing to the rationalization and optimization of OVO’s SQL and CloudSQL environments. You will also have opportunities to engage in broader infrastructure initiatives, including BigQuery, DataDog monitoring, Kubernetes, and GCP network design.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain PostgreSQL databases, ensuring high levels of performance, availability, and security.
• Monitor database performance and report metrics; implement performance-tuning strategies as needed.
• Develop backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning.
• Implement security measures to safeguard the database against unauthorized access and vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate with developers to design efficient database schemas and optimize queries.
• Perform upgrades, migrations, and installations of PostgreSQL versions and extensions.
• Provide support for database-related issues and troubleshoot system errors.
• Document database architecture, processes, and procedures.

What we are looking for

• Proven experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, with a strong track record in managing, optimizing, and securing PostgreSQL databases.
• Deep knowledge of database management principles, including performance tuning, security, backup, and recovery strategies.
• Hands-on experience with SQL and CloudSQL migrations.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as DataDog.
• Experience working within an SRE function, ideally with exposure to BigQuery and Kubernetes (K8s).
• Proficiency in scripting and automation using languages such as Python or Bash.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work closely with software development and system administration teams.
