Principal Data Engineer
Location: Vilnius, Lithuania (hybrid)

As a Principal Data Engineer, you will spearhead the design, development, and operation of our data platform. You will provide strategic technical leadership to the team, driving the adoption of best practices and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure data solutions. Collaborating closely with business and IT stakeholders, you will translate complex business requirements into robust data architectures. This role demands a strong foundation in data engineering principles, coupled with the ability to mentor and develop team members. You will be instrumental in shaping our data strategy and driving innovation within the organisation.
Your responsibilities:
Collaborating with business leaders to understand their data needs and translate them into actionable data platform requirements. Advocating for the platform as a strategic enabler for data-driven decision making and unlocking business value from data.
Building strong relationships with key stakeholders across business units, data science, analytics, and engineering. Securing buy-in for data platform initiatives and championing the platform's value proposition in democratising access to data, promoting self-service analytics, and improving data governance.
Acting as the data technical lead on key JM projects and programmes, designing data solutions with architecture, and providing strategic direction on data practices and methodologies.
Supporting a secure, scalable, and high-performing data platform. Continuously monitoring key metrics and proactively identifying areas for optimization in performance, security, and data integrity.
Implementing strategies to minimize technical debt within the platform. Supporting quality and seamless data exchange through code reviews, standardization, and adoption of best practices in data design and development.
Working with the data governance team and Data Owners to ensure the platform aligns to data governance principles and promotes data quality and consistency across the organisation.
Fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the data platform team. Implementing a systematic knowledge management process for data platform best practices to optimise development lifecycles and ensure the organisation stays adaptable to evolving data technologies and methodologies.
Mentoring and coaching team members to achieve their full potential in data design, development, and support.
Embracing a culture of self-ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement. Empowering team members with the tools and resources to deliver high-quality data platform solutions and advocate for self-directed learning in the field of data technologies.
Requirements for the role:
Proven experience working as an engineer, with strong data background and experience. Demonstrating data technical leadership and subject matter expertise.
In-depth understanding of Azure Data Services i.e Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, Azure ASQL, DevOps, and Continuous Integration/ Continuous Deployment.
Experience in designing, building, and implementing data solutions.
Experience with working on data across multiple components and layers, within a common platform, including landing zones, common domains, and application data products.
Experienced in creating, maintaining, and driving adoption of data best practices, guardrails, and standards.
Good with defining and managing analytics (inc. error reporting, dashboards, and automated threshold-based alerts) for internal/ external consumption and for developers maintaining the data platform.
Strong people influencing skills and stakeholder management skills.
Familiar with matrix management structures and ways of working.
Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Knowledge of ARM templates, role-based access control (RBAC), Azure Purview, and data encryption at rest and in transit would be considered an advantage.
How you will be rewarded:
Salary range for this position is from 50,500 to 93,500 EUR per year depending on various factors, such as candidate’s qualifications, skills, and competencies. This role is also eligible to receive discretionary annual bonus that aligns with individual and company performance.
